One Day Stars Netflix CAT2

Viewers (including our very own PureWow editors) haven’t been able to stop talking about Netflix’s romance series One Day since it debuted on the platform last month. And while the British drama, which is based on David Nicholls’s 2009 novel of the same name, has been marketed as a limited series, fans have been dying to know: Will there be a sequel season to One Day?

Short answer? Kinda. Per an exclusive report by The Mirror, the streamer is now looking to adapt Nicholls’s follow-up book, You Are Here, which is scheduled to be released on April 23, 2024. The new book centers around two people named Marnie and Michael, who are brought together by a mutual friend and some “very English weather.” They quickly become friends after going on an epic walk together.

As of right now, casting, plot and a possible release date for the new adaptation have not been revealed. A TV insider previously told the outlet, “Netflix bosses knew they were onto a winner with One Day, but never predicted this level of success. They are already in the process of signing a new deal for David’s next release, which promises to be just as much of a tearjerker.”

One Day tells the story of Emma (Ambika Mod) and Dexter (Leo Woodall), who meet on the night of their graduation in 1988. The rest of the series follows the two close friends throughout the years.

As we said before, PureWow’s editors can’t stop raving about the miniseries. PureWow Senior Editor Dana Dickey said, “My BF suggested we watch the first episode last night, and it totally melted my Grinch heart.”

PureWow Assistant Sales and Deals Editor Destinee Scott went on to share, “I started watching it over the weekend and I finished last night. It is such a refreshing and homey love story—made me cry too.” Meanwhile, PureWow Executive Editor Alexia Dellner explained how she’s been seeing One Day everywhere on social media. “This is all over my feed,” she revealed.

If this follow-up adaptation is anything like the original, we’re in for a real treat.
