First, Regé-Jean Page captured our hearts as the dashing Simon Basset (aka the Duke of Hastings) in season one of the popular Netflix show Bridgerton. Then, Jonathan Bailey made us swoon as the charming Anthony Viscount Bridgerton in the second season. (Don’t even get us started on that lake scene.) And now, Luke Newton, who notably portrays Colin Bridgerton, is the next leading man in the highly anticipated third installment of the series.

In a March 2022 interview with Town & Country Magazine, Newton shared that it’s been “such a joy” to play Colin in the beloved Netflix series. As for playing the next romantic lead, the 30-year-old actor says he found the role to be a bit “overwhelming” and “rewarding” at the same time. “It was really exciting to be able to ring my mum and say, ‘We’re gonna get to my story at some point.’ She’s over the moon, as well, obviously,” Newton told the mag.

While Colin’s brewing romance with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) will be the center focus for Bridgerton season three, fans can’t help but wonder if the British actor has a girlfriend in real life. 1. Sophie Simnett

Before landing his breakout role on Netflix, Newton sang on the Disney Channel U.K. series The Lodge, where he met his now ex-girlfriend (and former The Lodge co-star) Sophie Simnett. The pair reportedly dated from 2016 to 2018. However, neither of them publicly confirmed their relationship or split.

In the musical drama, Newton played the role of Ben Evans, an outdoor kid who could fix just about anything, hence his nickname “Mr. Fix It.” Meanwhile, Simnett portrayed a teenage girl named Skye, who moves to the North Star, a family-owned hotel located in a rural neighborhood in Northern Ireland.

2. Jade Davies

Newton was in a long-term relationship with Welsh of the West End actress Jade Louise Davies. Per The Sun, the two had been dating since 2019, before ultimately splitting in 2023. A source close to the couple told the publication, “Luke and Jade drifted apart as they could not find time in their busy schedules to invest in their relationship.”

Aside from their love of singing and acting, the couple enjoyed traveling together. In 2021, Newton sat down with PopSugar and shared that he surprised Davies with a trip to Amsterdam for Christmas. He also revealed that his now former girlfriend created a scrapbook filled with photos of past activities they did with each other. “She’s got an amazing memory, much better than mine, so it’s kind of nice to me to look back and go, ‘Oh, that’s what we were doing that day,’ rather than just remembering the photo,” he said at the time.

3. Is Luke Newton Currently Dating Anyone?

Lately, it seems that Newton prefers to keep his dating life private. Aside from discussing his relationships in past interviews, the Bridgerton star doesn’t have any photos of potential partners or even his former girlfriends on social media. And from what we can gather, the English-born actor appears to be single at the moment. While it seems that Newton doesn’t have a love interest in real life, he is still rooting for his Bridgerton character to find love.

In a March 2022 interview with Shondaland, Newton shared what he loves most about Colin and Penelope’s relationship. “Their relationship is [has] been a real slow burn. There are so many other characters [who] are introduced and love stories that we’ve seen through the last two seasons that have developed quite quickly, or that there’s been an instant spark, an instant connection,” he explained.

But what sets Colin and Penelope’s relationship apart from the others? It’s their long history. He continued, “But what I love about Colin and Penelope is the longevity of the relationship and how long it’s taken to get to even where it is now, which is not even considered a relationship. I really enjoy playing that.”
