It may have been 26 years since The Nanny and the fabulously dressed Fran Fine (played by the iconic Fran Drescher) officially left the air. But for this millennial, it’s like no time has passed at all.

Though Fine may be long off the air, Drescher has managed to stay in the news. Just two weeks ago, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As SAG-AFTRA president, she recently helped navigate her way through—and out of—an actors’ strike. And her “Robin Hood fund,” a big win for screen actors, is finally off the ground.

But even if Drescher weren’t making headlines, as a millennial, her classic sitcom still holds a place in my heart. And I know I’m not alone. During a recent group trip, my friends and I decided a group costume was in order. As a bunch of ‘80s babies, we naturally turned to Fran Fine for inspiration.

Allow me to introduce the ideal group Halloween costume for 2025: eight Fran Fines (plus, one Mr. Sheffield). Here’s a look at our attempt at emulating the fashionista, along with how to get the look.

As is clear from our photos, it’s less about trying to look just like Fran herself and more about copying her unique sense of style. This often involves a bare midriff, a bold pattern and, of course, very, very, very high hair.

Sweater and Skirt Set Fran

The key to nailing Fran hair is a sky-high black or dark brown wig. Allow me to recommend tossing in a headband as well to complete the Nanny look. This crop sweater and skirt look was often worn by Drescher on the show and is easy enough to emulate for Halloween.

Animal Print Fran

Perhaps nothing screams Fran Fine quite like animal print. This is probably the easiest look: just toss on your biggest wig and a curve-hugging leopard print number and walk around yelling, “Mr. Sheffield!” in your most nasally Fran voice.

I Dream of Jeannie Fran

Fran’s midriff was on display more often than not—especially when she was off-duty. This skin-baring looks is super easy to copy (just make sure you bring a faux fur coat in case it gets chilly).

Mr. Sheffield

There’s always one in the group who, for whatever reason, wants to wear something a little more conservative. Luckily, they can go as the singular Mr. Sheffield, complete with a short black-grey wig.
