Sorry, You're Wrong About 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'—That's All

Reviewers? Bashing a sequel? Groundbreaking.

Honestly, what did you expect?

Memeable moments. Iconic lines. Anne Hathaway being all, you know, Anne Hathaway. For some of you, this simply isn't enough. Which is frustrating, y'all. I feel like Miranda having to explain cerulean here.

It's not my practice to review other reviews, but sometimes I have to make an exception (like I did with Wicked: For Good). The critical response to the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada sequel has been, well, mixed. A number of reviews have praised Meryl Streep's return as Miranda Priestly—it is, after all, Meryl Streep doing what she does best: being fabulous. But, I'm sorry, that's not enough for me, folks.

While plenty of critic and fan reviews were positive, far too many (especially from major outlets) were harsh and unappreciative. And to the haters, I say, sorry, you’re absolutely wrong about this movie. The Devil Wears Prada 2 delivers in every way I hoped it would...and then some.

The first half of the movie is setup but it doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Andy back in the halls (and cafeteria) of Runway is so satisfying to watch. There are even a few improvements on the original. Andy doesn’t have a toxic boyfriend and friend group out to destroy her life (and our movie). The only surviving friend (Tracie Thoms) is beyond supportive in the sequel. Huge improvement.

We also get to see Miranda in humorous situations in part deux. Miranda flying coach on a plane is genius. Miranda having to deal with bro culture (led by BJ Novak) is incredible. The “end zone” conversation between the two of them? Comedic gold!

The relationship dynamics this time around are also super fun to watch. Andy and Emily in "spy mode" in Milan is wildly entertaining. Andy and Miranda eventually teaming up (as we knew they would) is worth the 20-year wait.

Other elements that left me raving? There are plenty of twists (no spoilers here, but *gasp*!). The cameos are so exciting—just like in the first movie, it’s like playing a game of "spot the celeb." Justin Theroux is fab in the film (and unrecognizable). Lady Gaga doesn't just perform a big number (and sing the closing credits song), but she gets a juicy scene with Meryl.

And perhaps best of all, we get to see so many more sides to Miranda. In the first movie, we only see her vulnerable once and it’s due to the circumstances of her personal life. Here, we get to see her vulnerable as a result of the evolving publishing industry and how it has affected her professional life. We witness so many more layers of the character in the sequel. I love seeing her ask the question, when is it time to hang it all up?

To summarize, the sequel is great. Haters clearly came in with the wrong attitude and wrong expectations. As I watched, I thought to myself, "honestly, I hope they do a third one." If they do, let's just hope it doesn't take another 20 years.
