Spooky season is here, so it’s no surprise the moodiest makeup looks (think grunge or dark feminine) are popping up on my feed. Whether Gen-Zers are pushing for smudged eyeliner looks or NYFW is predicting berry blurred lips for 2026, I've discovered a new beauty aesthetic for autumn.

Vampy Girl Fall is well under way (and no it doesn’t mean you’ll be sparkling like Edward Cullen). “It’s all about depth, drama and seduction, think rich, moody tones that feel both powerful and elegant. The focus is all on statement lips and smoldering, dark eyes. Some people call it 'gothic glamour or dark romance,' but I like to think of it as ‘modern vamp,’” explains Christian Briceno, a celebrity makeup artist with celeb clients like Alicia Silverstone and Laura Donnelly.

I tapped three makeup artists to share tips and tricks on nailing the look—including all the photo inspo you need to channel your inner Jenna Ortega.

The makeup artists share the best tips and tricks for achieving vampy fall makeup. Note: It’s all about personalizing your look, so don’t be afraid of making the technique entirely your own.

1. Make Your Eyes and Lips the Main Focus By Evening Out Your Complexion

Although your eyes and lips are the main focus, don’t forget about your base. Briceno says start with a nourishing moisturizer and primer before going in with a satin-finish foundation. “[It will give] a natural, ‘real-skin’ effect,” he adds.

2. Diffuse Eye Shadow for ‘Undone Eyes’

Jaclyn recommends doing ‘undone eyes,’ a messy, smudged look that’s effortlessly cool. “Apply a creamy black eyeshadow crayon to your lash line and diffuse with your finger for a blurred effect,” she explains. “Then tight lines with dark eyeliner for extra dimension. Finally diffuse a taupe or greige shade on your lid.” Other fun shades to try out: deep plum, burgundy, chocolate brown and forest green.

3. Pick a Deep Red to Purple Lip

Whether you’re into tinted lip balm or a lipstick and liner combo, this sets the tone for the whole look. “The overall vibe is very moody and romantic, so focus on deeper reds and purples like burgundy and plum,” shares Jaclyn.

4. Add a ‘Candlelit’ Sheen

Briceno suggests adding a touch of highlighter for a candlelit sheen and a touch of blush (muted rose or mauve) for warmth. Meanwhile Allen says to keep brows defined and sleek, using a brow pencil for structure and a brow to gel to set. (Bonus points if you’re down to going the bleach brows route.

5. Opt for Setting Spray Over Powder

“Skip heavy powder and use a light veil where needed, or opt for a setting spray for a soft-focus finish,” says Briceno

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to take a bite out of this trend.
