I'll come clean: My guilty pleasure is slathering on a face mask and indulging in a pint of Häagen-Dazs cookies and cream with Grace and Frankie playing in the background. Doesn't sound too shabby, right? I've never thought too much about the skincare benefits involved, however; it's mostly just my self-care of choice. Or at least, it was, until I got my hands on Joanna Vargas's skincare—more specifically, the beloved esthetician's Eden Instant Lift face mask, which made me glow like Meghan Markle on her royal tour.

Who Is Joanna Vargas?

To put it simply, Joanna Vargas is basically the CEO of achieving glowing skin from the inside out. But don't just take our word for it. The New York-based esthetician's client roster includes the likes of heavyweight stars such as Mandy Moore, Mindy Kaling and Meghan Markle.

In March 2021, Markle wrote on her old blog, The Tig, that "If you can’t make it to the [Joanna Vargas] salon, [you should] pick up some of the signature products, like the JV face mask, for an at-home pick me up.”

What Is the Eden Instant Lift Mask?

Though it may look like any other face mask, this one's made of rejuvenating bamboo, along with other all-natural ingredients and antioxidants, like fruit extracts, hyaluronic acid and coenzyme Q10, to promote a visible, luminous glow. The company also claims that it's anti-aging, meaning it will reportedly help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. No matter what your skin type is, you should look forward to more hydrated-looking skin if this product is doing its job right.

The Test

To give this a go, I slathered it on once a week for three weeks straight. If you use face masks, you've probably encountered one that unfolded weirdly and left you wondering which side should go on your face. I didn't have that problem with this baby, since it has a wrapped plastic backing for effortless removal and application (it took me less than a minute to put on).

Once I did, it only took about 20 minutes to soak in, and there was no need to wash my face or follow it up with additional products. For me, that meant I could get in an entire episode and a good chunk of ice cream without any interruptions. But I was even more impressed with the floral, peony smell that wasn't overbearing and the fact that my face didn't sting throughout the process—it had more of a lightweight, airy feel. Plus, I didn't feel restrained (which came in handy when I was chowing down on ice cream).

Does It Live Up to Its Claims?

Though I didn't pay much attention to the immediate results following my treatment, as some of the formula was leftover on my face, I had to do a double-take in the bathroom mirror the following morning. It took a minute to fully register why my skin was radiating like I had just gotten a professional facial. I quickly realized it was the mask. While I can't speak to the company's claims of wrinkle- and fine line-reduction (my skin isn't there yet, knock on wood!), my glow lasted all throughout the following day. That's why I have to agree with Markle in her praise for it: This was the pick-me-up my skin needed, especially since I've been transitioning my skincare routine from winter to spring.

After 48 hours, the glow wasn't as visible, but at least I got to feel like a dewy royal for a full 24 hours. Plus, my skin seems to have kicked its winter dullness.

What can we say? Meghan knows her stuff.
