My mom always says, “Your hair doesn’t make you—you make the hair.” One day she’ll wear crochet braids, the next, short wavy extensions, and after that, a curly bob with bangs. Of course, big expectations come with a big price tag. Thankfully, my mom put it to the test for six months, so you can have peace of mind before making such a splurge.

No stranger to social media, where it has hundreds of thousands of views, the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth helmet is designed to help awaken hair follicles, minimize inflammation, improve scalp blood flow and lower dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels—a hormone tied to alopecia—using 120 red light LEDS at 620-660nm, which studies have shown to promote regrowth. No redness? Then you're good to go—all you have to do is charge the helmet for three hours. (My mom noted that you'll know it's fully charged when the light indicator is solid.) While you can connect the device to your phone via Bluetooth, it's not required. In fact, it's fully functional using a single button on the right earpiece. So once you place it over your head—kinda like a football helmet—you can sit back and relax for ten minutes while it does its thing. Since it automatically turns off, there’s no need to set a timer.

"I like doing treatments at night before bed. It kind of makes me feel like I'm at a spa, and I can just watch TV or scroll on my phone during the session," mom explains. "And despite how futuristic and intimidating the helmet looks, it's super comfortable. It even has padded cups to protect your ears."

Does It Really Help Regrow Hair?
