Are you dealing with acne, dullness, fine lines or tech neck wrinkles? Chances are there’s a skincare wand that promises to tackle your concerns. Although red light therapy masks are booming right now, some of us are looking for a smaller device to get the job done (or at least pop in your bag and take on-the-go). I went on the hunt to find the crème de la crème of skincare wands and found eager volunteers to try them out for a few months to see if it truly made a difference to their skin. Plus, I chatted with two experts on ways we can incorporate them in our routines.

How I Chose the Best Skincare Wands

I spent hours researching the best skincare wands in the market through customer reviews, medical experts’ recommendations and social media. From there, I asked for testers and narrowed the list down. Each tester was tasked with using their skincare wands for about three months. They documented how effective the device was for their skin and if they saw any improvement. They also took design and efficiency into consideration.

  • tackles multiple skin concerns at once
  • travel-friendly

Solawave

You can’t make a list of the best skincare wands without mentioning Solawave. Loved by Reese Witherspoon, Pedro Pascal and PureWow editors, it aims to soften fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone and refresh tired eyes. The brand recommends using three to five times a week, spending 12 minutes on the red light therapy, therapeutic warm, galvanic current and facial massage treatments. According to Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida, it completely transformed her skin in just two weeks.

She wrote in her review, “Since I’ve started using the Solawave wand diligently, my skin texture has definitely become softer and more supple, while my complexion looks more even-toned and glowy. The wand has also helped tackle my puffy under-eyes in the morning after one too many glasses of wine the night before, leaving them smoother and brighter. Furthermore, my skin feels more hydrated and looks less dull overall, which may be a testament to the claim of galvanic current increasing product absorption. As a result, the fine lines and creases that reveal themselves when my skin is parched have been less noticeable. I’ll also say that I haven’t gotten a single blemish or breakout in the past two weeks.”

  • offers multiple treatment settings

What We Don't Like

Joanna Vargas

Celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas has a beloved spa and a collection of skincare favorites, including the editor-approved Magic Glow Wand. Inspired by her signature lymphatic treatments, the tool is designed with four modes to balance skin’s temperature and boost radiance. Try hot mode for a deep cleanse, hot + massage mode to help absorb your skincare products better, cool mode to soothe skin or cool + massage mode to reduce puffiness and add firmness.

Associate Commerce Natalie LaBarbera found it was comfortable and works best to increase the effectiveness of her skincare products. “I'd recommend it for anyone who really invests in their skincare and is looking for a way to prolong/increase the effectiveness of their products (like exfoliating masks) or anyone looking to get in a bit of extra self-care on the go because it could easily be traveled with, too,” she writes. “I did see a bit of depuffing thanks to the lymphatic drainage effect and it encourages me to take better care of my skin—even though it doesn’t offer dramatic results.”

Best Skincare Wand for Delicate Areas

3. NuFace FIX MicroWand

What We Like

  • great for puffiness
  • works on small areas
  • visibly smooths lines

What We Don't Like

NuFace

If you’re familiar with NuFace Mini, then you should check out their latest launch: FIX MicroWand. The device promises an instant face lift in three minutes. It comes in three modes for the eyes, lips and lines. The slim design works to depuff the under-eye, define your pout and/or reduce the appearance of fine lines (we’re talking crow’s feet, 11s *and* smile lines). Just apply the included line smoothing serum and begin gliding it seamlessly on the targeted areas. Customers are calling it ‘little magic device’ and even ‘free filler with no pain.’

For Senior Manager and Content Lead Kate Kesselman, it’s worth the money if you stay consistent. “I found the tool to be easy to use and offer quick results. I find some gadgets take up too much of my time and I never end up using them consistently. This is only three minutes in the morning and I'm good to go. The quick timing has allowed me to be more consistent and see results. I was hoping it would help with my morning puffiness around my eyes and it definitely tackled this area. It also helped reduce any redness,” she wrote in her raving review

Shani Darden

Dr. Maccarone recommends this facial wand for a sculpted look. It uses sound wave technology to firm and smooth your skin. Use the precision ball attachment to focus on crow’s feet and fine lines or the flat disc attachment for 11s or your jowls. The slim design also is easy to use and toggle between seven treatments *and* three intensity levels. The brand recommends layering on their Hydra Prep gel before gliding the device along the skin for about ten minutes. According to Senior Director of Special Projects & Royals Rachel Bowie, loves how easy it was to set up and start using immediately.

“It felt lovely—like getting a gentle facial—and my skin looked like I did, too. I found the results to take time, but my skin still looked a bit plumper and healthier each morning following even just two minutes of use. You can use the Hydra gel that comes included to enhance the ‘glide’ but this device also works with any product so long as it gives that movement/slip as you move it around on your face,” she shares. “I went with the flat disc mainly since I was looking to focus on my forehead wrinkles and I definitely noticed an improvement—also in hydration with use over time. Overall, my complexion appeared healthier and my forehead wrinkles felt less visible.”

LYMA

If you’re looking for professional experience right at home, this luxury wand should be on your radar. The infrared laser light targets wrinkles, fine lines, 11s, crow’s feet, acne and overall sagging skin. It will ring you up to over $2,000 but Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida says it’s worth the investment. “It's definitely a pricey investment, but given that access to this device is usually limited to expensive facials, I think it pays for itself after a few uses—especially since it delivers real results. After using the device for 40 days (and forgoing the use of any other skincare gadgets in my arsenal for the purposes of this review), my skin no longer gets dry and flaky, and the dark patch of dry skin on my forehead—along with the fine lines running across it—have definitely begun to fade. I will usually get hormonal breakouts along my jawline leading up to the that time of the month, but those, too, have mostly dissipated; instead of getting big, painful blemishes beneath the surface of my chin, I only recently had a small spot pop up; I ran the laser over it and it was gone in a day,” she writes in her review of the device.

“As far as my main skin concerns—the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowls and crepey neck skin—those have become, at the very least, less bothersome. My face hasn’t been sandblasted free of any lines or texture, but I do find myself scrutinizing those particular areas less in photos and video calls, which is where I would really tend to notice (and hyperfocus) on them. I’d call that a win—especially since the results should only get better over time.”

Best Exfoliating Skincare Wand

6. PMD Wave Pro

What We Like

  • removes blackheads and whiteheads
  • easy to use
  • sleek design

What We Don't Like

  • loud vibrations

PMD

This skincare tool is ready to say goodbye to those pesky blackheads and whiteheads. It uses sonicglow and e-wave technology to minimize pores, reduce oil congestion and clear skin. The extractor has three modes: extract to remove excess sebum, dead skin cells and debris, infuse to make it easier for skincare products to penetrate deeper and lift to contour skin (specifically jawline, cheekbones and forehead). “I initially tried the PMD Wave Pro for the skin extraction perk, but now I’m staying for the deep hydrating tech,” writes Dara Katz, Executive Editor.

Katz says that for extra dry days, she applies her moisturizer and then zaps over it in the “infuse mode” that helps get ingredients deeper into the skin. “My skin definitely feels more hydrated and for longer when I use the PMD Wave Pro.” While Katz really likes the wand, she said it takes a little getting used to: “For one, I actually feel tingles when using it. There’s also a bit of a learning curve. With three modes and specific positioning of the wand and your hand, it is kinda confusing at first—and I think the directions could be better.” That said, for its price and three-in-one features, it’s a great addition to any skincare lover’s medicine cabinet.

Best Skincare Wand for Puffiness

7. Therabody TheraFace Depuffing Wand

What We Like

  • quiet
  • non-invasive
  • compact

What We Don't Like

  • short battery life

Therabody

The brand’s mission is simple: depuff anytime, anywhere. It has a hot and cold treatment to reduce puffiness, enhance radiance and fade dark circles. According to Director of Brand Partnerships Meg Ahem, the contoured tip made it easy to glide and mold into those smaller areas (aka the under-eye) for a firmer appearance. “The tip is very smooth and requires little to no product to help glide it on the skin. I would say the results were more temporary than long-lasting. I also found myself mostly using the cooling effect more than the warming effect. After a late night out, or less than my normal eight hours of sleep, the product was a great pick me up and I instantly felt refreshed, especially under my eyes,” she shares.

Fast Facts

  • Best for: puffiness, dark circles, dullness
  • Levels/Settings: 3
  • Attachments: 1
  • What's Included: travel cap, USB-C charging cable
  • Suggested Use: six minutes (two to three minutes on each area)

Most Customizable Skincare Wand

8. Medicube Age-R Booster Pro

What We Like

  • easy to use
  • customizable
  • comes with compatible app

What We Don't Like

  • device notifications are loud

Medicube

This viral skincare wand is loved by celebs and editors alike. It has four LED light modes to target any skincare concern. The booster mode enhances radiance, MC mode reduces the appearance of facial lines, derma shot mode contours the face and air shot mode improves elasticity. For SEO Editor Marissa Wu, she relied on this wand twice a week and started to see changes in her skin.

She wrote in her review, “After the treatments, my skin always felt (and looked) more hydrated, and I believe that in conversation around wrinkles and fine lines, etc., moisture is a big part of the equation. I think that for firming, I do feel a difference right after a treatment, but it’s a temporary fix and not permanent, so you need to do it consistently over a long period of time if you want results. You can't expect to use something like this for a few days or even a few weeks—I'd say give it a minimum of eight weeks. But I did notice that it helped with scarring I had, and keeping my t-zone more clear of breakouts.”

Fast Facts

  • Best for: acne, dullness, redness, puffiness
  • Levels/Settings: 5
  • Attachments: 1
  • What's Included: USB charging cable
  • Suggested Use: 2 to 3 times a week for air shot mode, 1 to 3 times a day for the other modes

What to Consider When Shopping for a Skincare Wand

  • Design: If you’re looking for a device you can travel with (or small enough to get into small crevices), you might consider Solawave or NuFACE slimmer shapes. Maybe you’re looking for multiple attachments like Shani Darden or a variety of modes like Medicube. Consider keeping design/features into consideration.
  • Skin Concerns: Do you want to focus on acne, fine lines, dullness? Focus on finding a device that targets your skincare concerns. “LED light therapy is great for acne or aging, microcurrent for lifting and contouring and massage modes work to support circulation and lymphatic drainage,” adds Delgado. “There’s also thermal or cooling settings that can improve product absorption and calm the skin.”
  • Consistency: While most devices recommend daily, the experts recommend reading the instructions thoroughly before implementing any skincare wand to your routine. Dr. Maccarone tells me, “Before investing in any new device or skincare, the key is to be sure that you can commit to using it consistently. Otherwise, your results will be limited and you are less likely to be satisfied with the device.”

The 8 Best Microcurrent Devices to Buy in 2025, Tested and Ranked by PureWow Editors

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Skincare Wands Really Work?

The experts say they can be very effective if consistent. “They can stimulate cellular activity and help improve the skin’s overall appearance, contour and suppleness,” shares Delgado. “They can also improve acne, support lymphatic drainage and boost skin luminosity.”

She also recommends having a structured skincare routine to truly get the best results. “Skincare wands should not be used in isolation. Combine them with a brightening serum and a consistent nighttime skincare routine to enhance their effects.”

Are There Any Side Effects to Using a Skincare Wand?

The experts say that using a skincare wand incorrectly can lead to discomfort. However, most devices are safe and have minimal side effects (like redness and mild irritation). Dr. Maccarone recommends talking to a medical professional before trying any new treatments/devices.

What Is the Best Skin-Tightening Device?

“While there is no comparison for surgical treatment, there is some benefit with devices that combine radiofrequency and microneedling. The combination of the two treatments really increases the benefits for increasing collagen production and improving skin texture,” shares Dr. Maccarone. The device in question? The  NuFACE TRINITY+ Microcurrent Facial Device, which she praises for being customizable and great for lifting and tightening the face.
