As a native New Yorker, I know all too well what the air outside can do to our skin. Whether you’re commuting on the subway or making your way through the crowded streets of Soho, here’s your sign to take a break and indulge in a facial. There are plenty of spots in the Big Apple to give yourself a dewy glow or remove any pesky blackheads creeping up your nose. I chatted with PureWow's editors to compile a list of the best facials in NYC.

1. Exhale Spa at Thompson Central Park

“The receptionist was super friendly and immediately brought me back to show me the facilities, handing me a soft robe and fitted slippers. The locker rooms were bright and clean, featuring large showers and a sauna to use before or after the spa service. I then sat in a very calm waiting lounge that offered tea, water, soothing music and comfortable seating. It was quiet and exactly what I needed to get into a relaxed place.

My facialist Meredith greeted me quickly and escorted me to my room. The bed was extremely comfortable and boasted a warming feature (at one point I was a little too hot so I mentioned it and Meredith immediately switched it off). She was very communicative about my Signature Facial. My favorite part was that she offered the option to walk me through the facial step by step (naming ingredients and their purpose) OR to just let me relax and enjoy the experience. I chose the latter. The facial included two rounds of cleansing, a face mask, extractions, a massage, a toner, eye cream and moisturizer. When it was done, I felt relaxed and my face felt amazing. I didn't feel irritated at all (I have sensitive skin so this happens sometimes). And I felt like I had a lovely glow as I walked out of the spa.” — Philip Mutz, VP of News and Entertainment

2. La Prairie Spa at The Ritz Carlton

“I’ve had plenty of facials before, but the one from La Prairie Spa has to be on the top of my list. Once I was given a short tour of the facilities, I opened my locker to find a comfortable robe and slippers. The small lounge area had snacks and fruit-infused water to choose from while I waited for my facialist. The space was very calming and comfortable.

My facialist Mary was amazing. I was able to heat up the bed to a nice temperature and choose the music I wish to play while she did my treatment. (Anywhere from Mozart to Adele.) She spent time analyzing my face and found the best methods for me. My treatment had extractions, microcurrent and even a nice lymphatic face massage. At one point I had asked her which tool she was using and she was only relaxing the muscles on my face with her hands! Overall, my face felt dewy, calmed and sculpted. She also spent time giving me a scalp massage, which I greatly appreciated.” — Chelsea Candelario, Beauty & Cultures Editor

3. Sage + Sound

I’ve been to Sage + Sound for multiple services—from getting a lymphatic drainage massage to a non-toxic manicure—but don’t sleep on their facial services. They are tailored to your skin type and needs, whether you're looking for a glowy, sculpted or smoother look. They currently offer seven treatments, but Mutz's friend, Andrew Feldmann recommends the Glow Up Facial.

"Sage + Sound is a wonderful, gorgeous space that's both modern and fresh. My facialist Sophia was fantastic. She was warm, funny and clearly an expert in her field. I was greeted warmly and right on time. Sophia and Leslie took such incredible care of me from start to finish. I was nervous about the chemical peel part of the facial, but it was absolutely fine—and my skin has never looked better! I loved every second of it," shared Feldmann.

4. Ora

"The reception staff were warm and attentive, offering a curated menu of herbal teas that set the tone for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The spa’s serene atmosphere—complete with soft lighting, gentle aromas and calming decor—created an immediate sense of tranquility that allowed me to unwind before my treatment even began.

When it was time for the Lift and Sculpt Facial, I was led into a cozy, dimly lit room where gentle, soothing music played in the background. The esthetician was professional and kind, explaining each step of the process while making sure I was completely comfortable. The highlight of the facial was the microcurrent therapy—a unique and modern treatment that felt like a cool, tingling sensation across my skin. The entire session felt like a perfect balance of science and self-care." — Ashley Klugerman

5. Sisley Paris Spa at The Dominick

"My experience was lovely, and the timing couldn't be more perfect because the rainy weather had already put a damper on my mood, so walking into this bright and peaceful space immediately changed that. I was greeted by a delightful staff member who did my facial, and I so appreciated having a quiet room with blackout curtains. It truly felt like I had escaped the hustle and bustle of New York for an hour.

The treatment itself was very relaxing. I have sensitive, oily skin, but I didn't have a negative reaction to any of their products (which were all vegan). The person who did my facial was so kind and genuine, her positive attitude was contagious and it made the experience even more enjoyable. I would say try their Phyto-Aromatic Facial because I noticed an immediate difference in my skin. It looked brighter and had a natural glow.

The time flew by and I honestly didn't want to leave, so after getting a quick tour of the rest of the spa (including a salt chamber, steam room, sauna and relaxation lounge), I treated myself to some tea and gave myself a few extra moments to unwind. Overall, a great experience and just the escape I needed." — Nakeisha Campbell, Associate Editor of News & Entertainment

6. Silver Mirror Facial Bar

"I've been to two different Silver Mirror locations in NYC (on three different occasions) and I found both were really easy to get to with public transit. Silver Mirror is ideal for the person who wants a low key, accessible facial. Because the 'treatment rooms' don't have physical walls to separate them, it's not super quiet, but it never really gets to a level that I'd call loud. I love it as someplace I feel comfortable popping into after work or just because, rather than turning it into a whole big treat.

I've had three different estheticians (though you can request to repeat the same person if you like) and all struck a lovely balance between chatting with me to make me feel comfortable and then chilling out as the facial progressed so I could just relax. I just really appreciate that you can designate in your intake form how much of a conversation you want to have with your esthetician. Some days I want to lay in silence, other days I want to know what the steps are and sometimes I'm totally down for a chat, and I'm glad Silver Mirror asks (and listens to) what I'm feeling.

I'm quite sensitive to scent, but found all the treatments themselves to either be light enough to not bother me, pleasing or unscented, which was a major bonus IMO. Each time I left feeling refreshed and looking totally glowy, an effect that only amplified over the next few days. I'd say I reached peak gorgeous skin on day 2 or 3. Also, the basic facial is just $99, which is a total score for the level of care you get." — Abby Hepworth, Fashion Editor

7. HydraFacial

"I've done HydraFacial twice and it's definitely an experience you have to try at least once. The service uses a device to deeply cleanse and remove any impurities. I can only describe it as a gentle vacuum for the face. The esthetician moves the wand along the skin as it sucks up any product build-up or dead skin cells. Be prepared to see loads of gunk leave your face and pop right into a tube (see mine above). I couldn't believe how clogged my pores were and my face felt loads cleaner afterwards.

A special shoutout to Danielle Rosetti, who walked me (and my mom) through the process, answering all our questions and customizing the experience for our skin types. Aside from removing, the device is also use to add hydration and nourishing products for an all-around glow. The best part is that you can find this treatment in many places in the city. Just type in your location and you'll find one nearby." — Chelsea Candelario, Beauty & Cultures Editor

8. Spencer's Spa

"I've been a regular at Spencer's Spa for months now—trying everything from facials to massages. The waiting room is so chic and well-designed, with huge windows overlooking the streets of Soho and lots of plush, comfy seating to sit back and sip spa water and green tea in before and after your treatment. The staff is welcoming and accommodating, and they don't rush you to get in and out—you can sit and unwind for as long as you wish.

The aestheticians I've had have also been extremely knowledgeable, and have addressed my skin concerns, from dryness to anti-aging. I love the multi-faceted approach of the 75 minute facial, which includes the use of high-end skincare tech like microcurrent and LED light therapy, as well as lymphatic drainage massage, extractions and exfoliation, finished off with skincare products suitable for my skin. It feels very well-rounded, and the price is pretty reasonable compared to other spas. And the massages that are included in the facial? Chef's kiss!" — Stephanie Maida, Senior Commerce Editor

9. Christine Chin Spa

“What I love most about a visit to Christine Chin is how hole in the wall it feels; you could walk right by it if you weren't paying attention, but that's likely why celebs (ranging from Michelle Yeoh to Gisele Bundchen) love it. The under-the-radar spot offers a multitude of skincare experiences from facials to microdermabrasion to waxings and skin tag removal—and it's all customized to meet your needs.

My recent treatment was booked as a custom facial, but after assessing the start of age spots on my cheeks near my ears and propensity toward dryness, my aesthetician recommended a glycolic peel to start, in addition to microdermabrasion and an oxygen peel. As she worked, she also pointed out various problem spots—such as a skin tag that was developing on my chin (she removed it) and the importance of simultaneously treating my neck (the spot we most neglect).

I feel like a visit to Christine Chin is the equivalent of calling in the big guns when it comes to skincare—the amount of tailored troubleshooting, but also skin fixes a treatment here provides is staggering. It has the feel of a one-stop shop for skin concerns (again, it's rare to have a facialist that can take care of skin tags), but still leaves you feeling relaxed and Zen at the end. I found the entire experience to be highly targeted and calm, especially the near 15-minute facial massage to boost collagen flow and circulation at the start. At the end of it all, a green tea mask was applied to reduce redness and deliver one final jolt of hydration. Not kidding, when I left my skin felt as smooth as a newborn baby's bottom.” — Rachel Bowie, Senior Director of Special Projects & Royals

10. Très Belle Petite Medi-Spa

"On a trip to Paris a couple of years back, I was introduced to Biologique Recherche via a facial at their flagship boutique and a love of their cult favorite product line (P50 included) was born. Alas, Biologique Recherche can be tough to find stateside, which is why I was thrilled to learn that Très Belle Petite Medi-Spa in Brooklyn not only carries it, but offers a range of treatments designed around it. I booked their HydraLift service, walked over (yes, it also happens to be near-ish to the neighborhood I live in) and entered into a boutique experience that whisked me away to the vibe of Paris.

My treatment was with Natalya, who went above and beyond to understand my skin concerns and typical beauty routine at home before tailoring the treatment to meet my needs. When the red light therapy was a bit too much for my blue eyes, we adapted; she also took extra time to talk through her product choices. For example, the Biologique Recherche Masque Visolastine+, which she explained was the perfect moisture replenisher to be applied after P50, was exactly what my parched skin needed. (She also made sure to send me home with plenty of samples vs. pushing a sale of the pricey products—an experience that, in fact, has me planning a trip back later to purchase, the product was that amazing for my skin.)

More than anything, this is an experience that is kind—I have a tendency with facials to walk in and admonish myself for the lack of self-care and attention to my complexion, a result of 'these busy lives we lead.' Natalya was positive and encouraging about the results of a single treatment and how I'd walk out the door completely refreshed. Let's just say I'd go back in a New York minute.” — Rachel Bowie, Senior Director of Special Projects & Royals

11. The Spa by Equinox Hotels

“The Spa by Equinox Hotels has the friendliest staff. Everyone I met at the spa was beyond friendly and helpful. They were super professional, kind and informative when I didn't know about the benefits of a particular service.

The relaxation pods are a fabulous way to relax while you wait for your treatment (or in between treatments). These comfy and private pods allowed me to stretch out and kick my feet up—all with a view of the Hudson River. The atmosphere while I was lounging in the pods was relaxing, quiet and a perfect way to get me in the right headspace for my spa day.

I tried the Men's Facial and was so thrilled at how personalized the whole experience was. My facialist and I discussed my specific skin, my sensitivities and what I was looking for. The facial was fabulous and my skin was glowing when I left (it wasn't super red and irritated like is sometimes the case after a facial).” — Philip Mutz, VP of News and Entertainment

12. Strauhs Studio

“If you want a more private experience, Strauhs Studio is a great option to get a facial without hearing the hustle and bustle of the city. The studio is in a commercial building, but once you step inside the space it feels like a relaxing oasis. I was greeted by owner Cali Strauhs, who actually did my Signature Facial. She was so informative and walked me through each step of the process. I learned more about my skin and the best products (and ingredients) to use to combat specific concerns.

She tailored the treatment to work on my breakouts, redness and overall my combination skin. I got everything from LED light therapy, to minor extractions and a soothing face mask. I came out of the facial more confident in my skincare routine and more excited to try the products she recommended.” — Chelsea Candelario, Beauty & Cultures Editor

13. Spa De La Mer at the Baccarat Hotel

“When you enter Spa De La Mer, you're greeted by very kind and welcoming staff members. They escorted me to a changing room, where they had me change into a soft, warm robe and rubber sandals that made it easy to walk around the spa and pool area.

I was so incredibly relaxed during my facial that I actually fell asleep during my treatment. I was in a dimly lit room on a heated treatment table, wrapped in warm blankets. There was an ambient soundscape that played during my treatment with relaxing sounds like rainstorms, chimes, wind, etc. There was even a moment of Reiki-esque flow and connecting to pressure points when we started. The facial was super immersive, especially with how visceral my treatment was with sound, touch and sight.

My esthetician used steam to open up my pores, did some gentle exfoliation and extraction, and added lots of moisture to my face and lips. The products had very clean, fresh and natural scents to them. In addition to the facial element, she massaged my face, shoulders and upper chest area. Plus, the luxury of being able to experience La Mer products was also one of the best parts of the treatment. Once my treatment was completed, I was able to make my way to the pool and reserve a cabana for after my treatment. I loved that they allow spa guests to use the hotel pool as well. I think that's a lovely touch to the experience for ultimate relaxation.” — Delia Curtis, Former Assistant Editor

14. Great Jones Spa

“Some spas can feel a little... stuffy. You know the type—where you're not allowed to talk or where you feel pressured into buying a $500 serum after your treatment. Not so at Great Jones. The vibe here is refreshing and relaxed. Cheerful receptionists take you downstairs to the changing room, where there are robes, slippers and bathroom amenities to take advantage of, and then I went down another level and waited outside of the treatment room for my facialist.

Further down below I could see and hear people enjoying the water lounge (there's a pool, sauna and jacuzzi). The Signature Facial itself was great—I was pregnant and my facialist tailored the products and treatment. She also showed me how when I'm further along and unable to lie flat on my back, I could still enjoy a facial while slightly elevated. There were lots of cleansers and serums used, plus a very relaxing arm/hand/leg/foot massage that honestly would've been worth the price alone. I ended up loving the oat facial polish so much that I bought a tube on my way out. And again, I just loved the vibe here. Sometimes a facial can inadvertently make you feel bad about your skin ("you really should exfoliate more often!") but at Great Jones I just felt so pampered and relaxed in a pleasant and low-key setting. 10/10 would recommend.” — Alexia Dellner, Executive Editor

15. Haven Spa

“The pre-facial lounge is really calming and relaxing—I was able to enjoy a lovely cup of tea before my treatment. My facialist came to get me pretty quickly and she was very welcoming. She made me feel at ease right away. She was a pro and really knew what she was doing. It was great to have full trust in her.

We spent time talking about my skin before diving into the customized treatment. I particularly loved that the new Becalm facial is good for sensitive skin. I'm prone to redness, so the ingredients and serums used were all chosen to prevent irritation and to calm the skin. I left feeling refreshed (and, dare I say, with a glow). I just loved how customized the experience was to my skin. Overall, those with sensitive skin will find themselves in good hands at Haven Spa!” — Philip Mutz, VP of News and Entertainment

16. Glowbar

"I like to think Glowbar was made for the busy New Yorker. It's known for their 30 minute facials that are quick but thorough. I remember strolling through the Upper East Side and was in the mood for a facial and just popped in. I was able to see someone right away and my facialist was super helpful.

We did a skin consultation before diving into a treatment that was customized for my combo skin. Despite having multiple open rooms situated next to each other, the space still felt private and relaxing. And as a facial spot called Glowbar, expect your skin to come out ~glowing~.

Plus, I like the idea of signing up for a membership so you can stay on top of your facials and maintain healthy skin—plus, you're guaranteed one free guest pass per year, so why not bring your bestie along?" — Chelsea Candelario, Beauty & Cultures Editor
