Whether you’re a New Yorker (like myself) looking to pamper yourself with a staycation, or you’re simply visiting the Big Apple and want a weekend of luxury, the Loews Regency New York should absolutely be on your short list.

I recently had the pleasure of spending the weekend at the gorgeous Park Avenue establishment, which was luxe, lively and modern. And while I always love a Loews, my time at the Upper East Side Loews Regency (including one stellar meal) was particularly memorable. Here’s my honest review.

The Basics

The Room

After the hotel underwent a $100 million renovation back in 2013, the Park Avenue establishment reopened in 2014 with 379 luxury guest rooms. And let me tell you, the rooms are very nice.

As someone who has stayed in a number of New York hotels, I can attest to the fact that NYC hotel rooms tend to be on the “cozier” (aka smaller) side. Not the case at the Loews Regency. Upon opening my door, I couldn’t believe just how spacious my room was—and filled with natural light. It was also, of course, chock full of amenities: luxe bedding, electronic window shades, a smart TV…the list goes on.

The bathroom was large as well with a double sink (a bonus for someone like me who is used to battling for bathroom counter space) and a TV built into the wall so you can continue your Law & Order marathon while you brush your teeth.

I also had the chance to sneak a peek at several of the Loews Regency’s spacious Signature Suites, in case you’re looking to truly spoil yourself during your visit. Not only did they boast an enormous amount of space, but all of the Signature Suites were individualized with carefully curated furniture and artwork, giving each a one-of-a-kind feel. And for anyone who loves a balcony as much as I do, be sure to inquire about one of the Terrace Suites featuring a view of Park Avenue.

The Food and The Drink

While visiting NYC, you may want to venture out and try many of the stellar food and drink options that the city has to offer. And you should. But you should also save a meal (or two) for The Regency Bar & Grill, which sits right off the hotel lobby. What the Loews describes as “a quintessential Upper East Side dining destination,” it offers “all American fare with market-fresh ingredients in a contemporary setting.”

The Regency Bar & Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but try your darnedest to make it there for dinner. Featuring a stellar menu from new Executive Chef Manjit Manohar, it is quite the culinary experience. I would particularly recommend the Berkshire pork chops, served with collard greens, polenta and apricot mostarda. And don’t sleep on the classic meatballs as a shareable appetizer.

Of course, no meal would be complete without a craft cocktail—and the Regency Bar & Grill knows how to make a cocktail. Whether you’re feeling an old fashioned, a martini or something straight from their stacked drink list, you are going to be impressed (everyone I dined with certainly was).

And beyond a stellar dinner, you can order room service 24 hours a day, take advantage of the famed “Power Breakfast” and enjoy complimentary morning coffee in the Regency Bar.

The Amenities

If you packed your running shoes (and, unlike me, actually intend to use them), hit up the fitness center on the second floor. Yes, you’ll find Pelotons. Or if you just want to kick your feet up and read a newspaper while you sip your complimentary coffee (this is way more my vibe), make yourself comfortable in one of the cozy lounge areas just off the lobby. WiFi is complimentary as well.

Know Before You Go

The Loews Regency New York Hotel is super pet friendly. I brought my dog, Bubbie, along with me and he seemed to enjoy the stay just as much as I did. When I arrived, there was even an adorable pet setup in my room, including food/water bowls, a cute mat that read ‘Loews Loves Pets’ and a bone-shaped doggie-bag holder.

If you’ll be arriving by car, parking is available in a garage just around the corner. But plan to leave your car in the garage for the full stay, as the city and the neighborhood are extremely walkable. Central Park is very close by (let me suggest a visit to the Central Park Zoo) as is Bloomingdale’s and a plethora of shopping options.

Oh, and a note on the service while at the Loews. Every single person I interacted with was kind, helpful and went above and beyond. Service with a smile is an understatement.

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a luxury stay in NYC—whether solo, with a partner, with the fam or with a pet—the Loews Regency New York Hotel should be atop your list. With spacious rooms, delicious dining and uber-friendly service (all in a great location), this is now one of my new favorite city spots.
