Sure, Amazon Prime Day 2024 gives us opportunities to stock up on beauty products, kitchen gadgets and other must-haves. (Sign up here to gain access to the exclusive deals.) But the massive savings event, running from July 16 through July 17, also gives us a chance to indulge in high-tech enhancements (ahem, splurges) we might otherwise overlook—like a not-to-be-missed Apple Watch SE, which has a safety feature that nearly saved one PureWow editors' life.

No, unfortunately, that's no hyperbole. In addition to tracking a boatload of health data, like your heart rate, sleep patterns and calories burned, it also comes equipped with Fall and Crash Detection, which commerce editor Olivia Dubyak is willing to speak to. “I was in a bad car accident and my phone was thrown from the car, but luckily my Apple Watch detected the crash and called 911 for me, and alerted my emergency contacts to my accident. It truly was a lifesaver for me," she says.

That reason alone was enough to get me to take a closer look at this smartwatch, which is loaded with all kinds of helpful features. This model has Apple Pay, cycle tracking and a long battery life (lasting up to 18 hours, per the brand), and its sleek design is compatible with different watch bands for dressier occasions, so you'll really never have to take it off!

It also has an always-on retina display to make it easier to use outdoors and features sensors that can measure your blood oxygen level, if that's of interest. Just keep in mind that Amazon discounts vary based on color and wrist size—but not to worry: You'll still save a ton of money if you buy one by July 17.

Apple

Interested in a newer model? Good news: The Apple Watch Series 9 (was $399, now $280) is also on major sale RN, too. More specifically, you can snag it for 30 percent off. And, yes, it has all the bells and whistles, including sleep monitoring and exercise analysis. But unlike the SE, you can take an ECG—which is basically a test that checks your heartbeat—at literally any time. It'll even send you notifications if have an irregular heart rhythm. In other words, the smartwatch cares just as much about your health as you do, and it'll help you get ahead of any potential problems, like when you're coming down with a cold through temperature sensing.

That said, I'll leave it to you to decide which Apple Watch to buy this Prime Day, but if you ask me, you can't go wrong with either option.
