Universal Standard Is Fixing This Major Complaint With a New Product Launch

You know and love Universal Standard for being a pioneer in the realm of inclusive fashion. The New York–based brand has gained a cult following for crafting clothing in sizes from 00 to 40 and launching collabs with luxury brand Rodarte; everyone’s favorite, J.Crew; and even OITNB actress Danielle Brooks. The brand’s latest attempt to make fashion more accessible to all solves an oft-ignored problem in women’s footwear.

Did you know most women’s shoe brands max out at a size 11? Yep. So, imagine how difficult it’d be to find stylish and comfortable pumps, flats or boots that you actually like outside that range. Thankfully, Universal Standard just introduced the solution to this sizing oversight with two sets of sleek boots that run from sizes 6 to 13.

The brand’s new boot collection includes the Porto ($250), an ankle boot with a split leather vamp, a block heel and a gold embellishment at the back. The Lisbon ($280) is a tall boot constructed from premium leather and contrasting knit fabric. It features an illusion pump with the same block heel and gold flourish as the Porto. Both styles are thoughtfully made in Portugal.

Although the knit fabric may just look like a stylistic choice, the minds at Universal Standard actually included it to allow women of all sizes to fit into a pair. The fabric can be folded, worn all the way up or even scrunched, depending on what vibe you’re going for. No matter which way you wear them, the knitwear is made with shape in mind so it won’t stretch out or compromise the silhouette of the boot. The new footwear also includes antimicrobial insoles and extra density padding for comfort, and they’re even water resistant.

These boots are definitely made for walking.
