‘This Is Us’ Star Susan Kelechi Watson Hints that Trouble’s Brewing for Beth

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

It’s been a wild ride of a season for the Pearsons. In This Is Us season four alone, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) has started a new career as a city councilman, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) has opened a dance studio, Tess (Eris Baker) has come out, Deja’s (Lyric Ross) gotten involved with a young man who has a child, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) has been diagnosed with a memory loss condition and Randall and Beth’s home has been burglarized. That’s a lot. We’ve seen how all the chaos has impacted Randall’s mental health issues and definitely applaud his decision to seek therapy. But there’s one Pearson parent who’s not having her needs met and that could spell disaster: Beth.

Beth is such an incredible partner to Randall and mother to Tess, Annie (Faithe C. Herman) and Deja, that it’s easy to forget she needs a moment to herself every now and again. We got a glimpse into how she’s coping with all the change in season four, episode nine (emergency pantry wine!), but we haven’t gotten a great sense of how she’s been doing since. Well, after last night’s episode, Watson came out on Twitter and revealed just how Beth is feeling.

Watson wrote, “Y’all, Beth needs a break!” with a crying face emoji and a photo of her character looking totally exhausted in the kitchen.

For such a central character to the plot, we’re kind of shocked we didn’t notice the warning signs. We (and Randall) have been so distracted by the Big Three’s issues and Rebecca’s deteriorating memory, that we haven’t stopped to wonder how Beth is handling all the Randall-ing out.

Fingers crossed there’s some peace in Beth’s near future when This Is Us returns with season four, episode 16 on Tuesday, March 3, at 9 p.m. PT/ET.
