‘This Is Us’ Creator Dan Fogelman Just Prompted a Game-Changing Season 3 Fan Theory
From Jack’s death to Kevin’s struggle with addiction, This Is Us never fails to keep us on our toes. And with season three right around the corner, series creator Dan Fogelman has sparked a flurry of fan theories about a skeleton in the Pearson extended-family closet.
It all started when Fogelman shared a sneak peek photo of Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) late biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), holding an infant that’s presumably Randall. The Emmy winner casually captioned the snap, “Season 3. Brace yourselves,” but fans couldn’t help but notice some discrepancies in the pic.

First off, any time we see baby Randall before he became a part of the Big Three, William is played by actor Jermel Nakia. In this case, however, Cephas Jones is holding the baby and he doesn’t look all that young. Which, as fans on Twitter were quick to point out, could only mean one thing: William has another child and Randall has a biological sibling.
Dan, my gawd. So Randall has another sibling? Thanks for making us cry before the 3rd season even hits the air.

William was very young when he left little Randall at a fire station, so it is possible he fathered another child.
Even so, others offered a slightly more plausible storyline: Rebecca (Mandy Moore) took Randall’s daughters to meet their grandpa when they were wee babes.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, but it seems like this one might be good for 1,000 theories. We’ll have to wait to find out when This Is Us returns to NBC for season three on Tuesday, September 25.
