1. Peperomia Obtusfolia

The Peperomia obtusifolia is native to the Tropical Americas and Caribbean. A popular houseplant, it's sometimes called a baby rubber plant because of its thick green leaves. Like other peperomias, the Obtusifolia is non-toxic, making it pet-friendly.

Native to southern and central Africa, the 'Laurentii' snake plant is a tropical type of succulent that's know for its air-purifying properties. We think it looks damn pretty too.

3. Parlor Palm

Chamaedorea elegans, also known as the Neanthe Bella Parlor Palm, can grow to well over six feet tall. Although it's in the same family as coconuts and dates, which produce edible fruit from flowers at the top of the plant, this plant produces inedible fruit from flowers at the base of the plant.

4. Haworthia Zebra

Your classic succulent, the Haworthia is so closely related to gasterias and aloes that they can cross breed with each other freely to form hybrids. These little guys are pet-friendly, and thrive in bright direct light (but can tolerate bright indirect light).

5. Calathea Medallion

Calatheas are often called 'prayer plants' because of their unique leaf movements: They raise and lower their leaves from day to night as a part of their circadian rhythm. To help them thrive, water them every one to two weeks, allowing the soil to dry out half way down between waterings.
