The trailer for season four of The Morning Show just dropped, and it’s already causing a commotion among fans.

The news media series starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon has been a hit since premiering in 2019, and if the trailer is any indication, this just might be its most dramatic season yet. While the trailer itself doesn’t reveal any clips from upcoming episodes, it builds tension as it shows Aniston and Witherspoon’s characters, Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson, walking toward each other. Both look solemn and determined, as a pared-down cover of The Temptations' "Just My Imagination" plays in the background, along with lines from characters in the show. The lyrics take on a poignant new meaning, when you start to take in the narration—and where the series is picking up.

"We have to question everything that we see and we hear now more than ever," says Alex, to which Bradley responds, "The truth always comes out, you know that." Season four picks up in the spring of 2024, a few months before the fall U.S. Presidential election, and while the trailer may not have given too much away, the official synopsis from Apple reads, "In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups — who can you trust? And how can you know what’s actually real?"

Over the years, The Morning Show has received several noteworthy nominations, including 16 Emmy Award nominations for Season three. Aniston also earned a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her performance in season two.

When asked in late 2023 if the time jump in season four would mirror the gap between seasons two and three, Witherspoon told Variety, "I think so, just because it takes us so long. They write for so long and have brand-new storylines that are happening. I think we’re a little behind in time, too."

Aniston added, "Our show tends to mirror what is actually happening in the world." And Witherspoon responded, "Yeah, so as things come up while they’re writing, they’ll put them into the story."

The 10-episode season is slated to premiere on September 17 on Apple TV.
