Surprise! Taylor Swift Is Dropping a New Album Tonight (& We Already Have a Name and Full Tracklist)

It’s been a major week for Taylor Swift news. First, we got a sneak peek at her 2020 Christmas card and now, the 30-year-old singer has announced she is releasing a surprise album tonight.

In an unexpected move, Swift revealed that she will debut the new record at midnight (ET) on Thursday, December 10. Called “Evermore,” the country star described it as a “sister” album to her most recent release, “Folklore.” Oh, and did we mention she also revealed the full tracklist and teased the music video for her song, “Willow,” which will also debut tonight?

“I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore,” Swift announced on her Twitter account. “To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.”

She continued, “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.”

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, considering she released her latest album just five short months ago. And while the “Love Story” singer has admitted she’s been continuously writing, she made no mention of a possible album on the horizon. How sneaky.
