It's Only Taken Forever, But Tampons Are Now FSA and HSA Eligible

It's kind of shocking that this is just now becoming a reality, but it's good news nonetheless: Because of changes included in the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), tampons and pads are now eligible for purchase with tax-free contributions to flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs).

Translation: We can start saving on the nearly $5,000 that the average person spends on period-related products in their lifetime.

To make things even easier, Health-E Commerce, the parent brand of FSAStore.com, HSAStore.com and WellDeservedHealth.com, just launched a menstrual care product selection, featuring popular brands like U by Kotex, Playtex, Stayfree, Carefree and more.

The addition of tampons and pads to FSA and HSA eligibility has been a long time coming for the more than 70 million Americans who use FSAs and HSAs to pay for healthcare expenses. In fact, in surveys conducted by Health-E Commerce, nearly 60 percent of FSA and HSA users have said they wanted a larger pool of reimbursable expenses. Eligibility for menstrual care products has been one of the most common requests.

Better late than never, we suppose.
