Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Just Borrowed Kate Middleton’s Go-To Parenting Move

Whether it’s her impeccable royal style or feminism-focused tours, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, continues to catch our eye. So, when she paid homage to one of Kate Middleton’s go-to parenting moves last week, you bet we took note.

It started when the 55-year-old countess visited a local community center in Mersea Island, United Kingdom, early last week alongside her husband Prince Edward.

While there, the Earl and Countess of Wessex chatted with children from Mersea Island Primary School and community leaders and even visited Tiptree Farm to learn about farm to factory production. Oh, did we mention it was also the Earl of Wessex’s 56th birthday? HBD, Edward.

In the midst of their official royal duties, the countess took a moment to pull a K-Middy and dust off her parenting skills. While speaking with a young boy who brought a mobile to greet the earl and countess, Sophie bent down to speak to him at eye-level.

As you can see above, the children were delighted by her decision to come down to their height in order to connect with them. Clearly, she’s learned a thing or two from raising her own two children, 16-year-old Lady Louise Windsor and 12-year-old James, Viscount Severn. Although the countess may have learned this trick while parenting her own brood, it definitely bears a striking similarity to Middleton’s go-to speaking to children move.

You see, the 38-year-old Duchess of Cambridge always bends or squats down to meet children at eye-level during royal engagements. This way, they feel less intimidated and freer to express themselves. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have also employed the technique while out and about on royal business.

Suffice it to say, the royals are really good with kids.
