Before she was the singer behind hits like “Hands to Myself” and “Lose You to Love Me,” Selena Gomez first splashed onto the scene thanks to her starring role as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place. Most recently, Gomez has been portraying the guarded and artistic Mabel Mora on Only Murders in the Building. Now, it looks like the 30-year-old actress could have another major role lined up, as she is in talks to play musical icon Linda Ronstadt.

According to a report from Showbiz 411, Gomez is being strongly considered to portray the 11-time Grammy winning singer.
Reporter Roger Friedman writes, “I’m hearing that James Keach, who produced the award-winning documentary, The Sound of My Voice, about Ronstadt, has a script and is talking to Gomez.”
Friedman adds, “The story is plenty juicy as it would track Linda singing with the Eagles and Jackson Browne, then peeling off into superstardom.”
Ronstadt was a musical icon of the ’70s and ’80s and her career includes twenty-one Top 40 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and ten Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200.
This would only be the latest musical role for Gomez. Earlier this year, she filmed alongside Zoë Saldaña for their upcoming musical crime comedy Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Audiard (Rust and Bone, Dheepan).
In the past two years, the 30-year-old received Emmy noms for Only Murders (on which she serves as an executive producer), with the series getting nods for Outstanding Comedy Series. She also received a Golden Globe nom this year for her performance in the show.
Gomez would totally nail this role—let's make it happen.
