Sandra Oh celebrated a major milestone yesterday. The Grey's Anatomy actress officially turned 50 years old and gave a shoutout to a handful of her past characters, including Dr. Cristina Yang.
To mark the occasion, the Emmy nominated actress shared a slideshow on her personal Instagram account. “I’m 50 today!!! Thank you mum, dad, grace&ray and all the clans of our family tree,” she captioned part of the post. Oh made sure to include everyone in her lengthy message. (We’re talking her class of ’93 and her childhood friends.)
Of course, she even penned a message to her “muses” including Dr. Yang from Grey's Anatomy and Eve Polastri from Killing Eve. We’re not necessarily surprised she chose to include the ABC character in her list of thank yous considering she played Yang for almost a decade—from 2005 to 2014. In fact, the role even landed her five Emmy Award nominations.
She ended the note, “Thank you to All who have watched and supported and who still want to watch. I can’t thank you enough. For my beloved who made the book that reminds me who I am, thank you.” The IG post included everything from a selfie to Oh posing with her birthday balloons.
Fans and followers were quick to fill the comments section with well-wishes. One user wrote, “Happy birthday Sandra. Thanks for being a great person and bringing to life Cristina Yang,” while another added, “What an amazing day, you have no idea how important you are for me and for all your fans.”
