One of Meghan Markle’s Favorite Designers Just Launched a Sustainable Bridal Line

Remember the day before Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry when she stepped out in a classic yet modern navy Roland Mouret Galaxy shift dress? (Ah, memories.) The now 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the acclaimed designer didn’t start there—they’ve actually been friends for years—but it seems her decision to wear Roland Mouret on that specific day got him thinking about bridal.

So, Mouret officially launched his first bridal collection, but that’s not all. It’s also sustainably made and intended to be worn after the wedding, too.

“The amount of fabric used for a bridal dress that you’re only going to wear once is a waste of material and a waste of space because you have to immediately pack it away,” the designer explained to Marie Claire.

So, he created a collection of swoon-worthy gowns, jumpsuits, separates and dresses with impeccable tailoring and design.

As you’ll notice, Mouret’s pieces are basically the epitome of chic for the cool bride with sustainability in mind. So what sparked the idea for Mouret to not only design his first bridal collection but one with an eco-conscious hook—Markle factor aside?

“My generation of designers went from two collections to four to six collections,” Mouret explained. “When you wake up and realize your creativity is destroying the planet…it’s quite a bitter feeling. But back then, we didn’t know any other way.”

In addition to his thoughtfully crafted new bridalwares, Mouret is also working on a new hanger with Arch & Hook BLUE that’s made from recycled plastic and other ocean debris. He’s aiming to replace the single-use plastic hangers that are used when clothes are in transit from factory to retailer with his new planet-friendly version.
