Fans have been waiting years—I repeat, years—for Legally Blonde 3, which was supposed to premiere in 2022. Although the wait isn’t over just yet, there is more Legally Blonde news to celebrate.

Today, Reese Witherspoon announced that up-and-coming star Lexi Minetree will play Elle Woods in Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series, titled Elle. The Morning Show star, 48, shared a video on Instagram featuring the moment Witherspoon told Minetree she landed the role.

In the video, Witherspoon tried to play coy while setting up the big announcement. She said, “Your audition tape was amazing, and we had to make a really hard decision the other day. And we wanted to tell you in person because you’ve just worked really hard, and we just wanted to tell you that you don’t have to audition anymore because you got the part.”

Witherspoon added, “You’re Elle Woods.” I’ll let you watch the video to see Minetree’s candid reaction for yourself.

The caption read, “Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree.”

Witherspoon first announced the prequel series last year when she shared a video on Instagram explaining that casting for Elle Woods was underway.

“As you probably know, we at Hello Sunshine are partnering with Amazon to launch a new television show called Elle, which is the prequel to Legally Blonde,” she said in the clip. “And today…we are starting the casting process. and we are making it open. This is an open casting for the young Elle Woods when she was in high school.”

Lexi, let’s show the world how valuable Elle Woods can be.
