Mindy Kaling Teases Jennifer Coolidge’s ‘Juicy’ Storyline in ‘Legally Blonde 3’

It seems Elle Woods will have some competition as the most beloved character in Legally Blonde 3. (Sorry, Reese Witherspoon.)

Mindy Kaling—who’s co-writing the script—recently sat down for an exclusive interview with E! News to share details about the highly anticipated sequel.

Although the movie is “still in development,” The Mindy Project alum, 42, expressed her excitement about Jennifer Coolidge’s character, Paulette. Kaling admitted that she was inspired to expand Paulette’s storyline after she watched Coolidge in The White Lotus. And we suddenly want a hot dog real bad.

“Obviously, Paulette was just like so integral to the whole franchise but once we saw [The White Lotus] we were like, ‘Ooh, we really want to make sure that she has something really juicy to do,’” Kaling said.

Excluding Witherspoon and Coolidge, no further casting details have been announced for Legally Blonde 3. “I’ve always thought of Elle Woods is like Reese’s Avengers,” Kaling joked. “She gets recognized everywhere in the world.” What, like it’s hard?

Kaling also confirmed that Legally Blonde 3 will feature several newcomers. “There’s definitely gonna be a lot of new faces in the movie,” she added. “Reflecting the world as it is now is something that’s really important to Reese, and so having there be like diversity is super, super important. You can definitely count on that.”

This is going to be just like senior year, except for funner.
