Queen Elizabeth’s Instagram Page Is Being Taken Over—Here’s What We Know

Just because Queen Elizabeth is 95 years old doesn’t mean she’s not familiar with technology. So, it should come as no surprise that the British monarch is participating in a social media takeover.

It all started earlier today when Prince Charles’s Instagram account (@clarencehouse) teased the takeover with a Story, which read: “The @queensgreencanopy will be taking over @theroyalfamily’s Instagram Stories—visit their page throughout the week to find out more about the initiative.”

After heading to the royal family’s IG, it confirmed that Queen Elizabeth will be sharing posts all week in honor of her all-new venture: The Queen’s Green Canopy, an initiative that encourages the public to plant trees. To celebrate the launch, the monarch released a never-before-seen photo of herself and her son, Prince Charles, planting the first Jubilee tree ((a Jubilee is a celebration in honor of a major milestone for the queen) at Windsor Castle. It was followed by a video of the Prince of Wales, 72, discussing the importance of nature.

“Planting a tree is a statement of hope and faith in the future,” Prince Charles says in the clip, before referencing his mother’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee, which will mark her 70th anniversary as queen.. “As we approach this very special year, I invite you all to join me to plant a tree for the Jubilee. In other words, a ‘Treebilee!’”

The caption read, “Today marks the launch of @queensgreencanopy, a unique, UK-wide tree planting initiative created to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. People across the country will be invited to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ from October this year, when the tree planting season begins. We’re excited for you to learn more about the initiative this week, as we’ve invited the @queensgreencanopy to take over our stories!”
