Only Queen Elizabeth Could Make a Hood Look Royally Stylish

No matter the weather, we try to avoid hoods at all costs—not only do they flatten our hair, but they also make us look like we’re about to board the Mayflower. Well, leave it to Queen Elizabeth to prove that wearing a hood can, in fact, be stylish.

Today, the 93-year-old monarch attended the first day of the 2019 Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park stadium in Plymouth, England. Being a rainy day, Queen Elizabeth wore a khaki waterproof coat, complete with a detachable hood that looks impossible to pull off.

Nevertheless, QEII did just that. Under her waterproof jacket, the monarch donned a quilted coat, tartan skirt and rainboots. She tied everything together (literally) with a fashionable headscarf.

During the event, the queen was spotted cheering on the horses, smiling through the rainy weather and making a series of bizarre facial expressions and hand gestures.

We’re not surprised by Queen Elizabeth’s attendance. Not only is she a longtime horse lover, but she’s also the proud owner of two competitors. That’s right, two of the monarch’s horses, Lancer IV and Tower Bridge, are competing in the five-day horse show. They are entered in two different classes: Four Year Old Hunter and Heavyweight Hunter, respectively.

The event just so happened to fall on the same day that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the name of their first child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The news came two days after the Duchess of Sussex gave birth at The Portland in London, a private maternity-only hospital near Regent’s Park. Shortly after, the royal family confirmed that Queen Elizabeth “is delighted with the news.”

Was it because his arrival didn’t interfere with the Royal Windsor Horse Show? Not that we’d blame her, of course.
