Queen Elizabeth Just Canceled Her Next Appearance—Here’s Why

liz 41

Queen Elizabeth has officially canceled her upcoming appearance at the U.N. climate conference in Glasgow, according to a statement by Buckingham Palace. The news was announced on Wednesday and comes just a week after Her Majesty spent the night in a hospital for tests.

Per People, the statement read, “Following advice to rest, the queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle. Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Evening Reception of COP26 on Monday, 1st November.” It continued, “Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the Reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

The decision doesn’t come as a huge surprise, considering the 95-year-old monarch recently canceled an outing due to her health. Earlier this month, the monarch was supposed to embark on a two-day trip to Northern Ireland to mark its 100th anniversary, but the outing was called off after her doctors recommended she not travel.

As we mentioned above, the 95-year-old monarch was admitted to the hospital last week, as instructed by her doctors, where she underwent “preliminary investigations.” Buckingham Palace announced the news in a statement, which read: “Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today [Thursday] and remains in good spirits.”

Following the overnight stay, the queen returned to Windsor Castle and resumed minor duties at her desk. And, as of yesterday, she officially returned to hosting virtual audiences.
