Princess Eugenie is sharing details about the first time her son, August, met her grandpa, Prince Philip.

The 31-year-old mom sat down for a rare interview in the all-new BBC documentary, titled Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers. In the film, Princess Eugenie revealed that she’s grateful Philip had the opportunity to meet August, especially since the baby is named after him.

The royal held back tears as she said, “We named August, August Philip, because grandpa has been such a huge, inspiring character in my life.”

Princess Eugenie confirmed that August met Prince Philip shortly before he passed away at age 99. “I brought little August to come and meet him,” Princess Eugenie added. “I told him that we’d named him after him. It was such a lovely moment. We were very lucky to do that.”

Princess Eugenie also shared details about the heartfelt wedding gift that Prince Philip gave her and her husband, Jack Brooksbank: a handmade painting of flowers. “It was so nice,” she explained. “It’s now sitting in my house in London, and I’m so proud of it, you know?”

Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers aired in the U.K. on BBC One earlier this week. Although it was supposed to be tied to the royal’s 100th birthday, the film was altered after Prince Philip passed away. The documentary featured interviews with friends and family members, including Philip’s four children: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

We have no doubt that Princess Eugenie will always cherish these memories.
