Princess Diana's Brother Posts Rare Pic of Grandfather—and the Resemblance Is Remarkable

We can always count on Charles Spencer (the younger brother to Princess Diana) for quality throwback content of the Princess of Wales’s family. And today, the maternal uncle to Prince William and Prince Harry shared a special snap of his and Diana’s grandfather on social media.

On Tuesday, the 9th Earl Spencer dug up a rare portrait of his grandfather, Jack Spencer, as a young schoolboy. The painting, which was shared on Charles’s personal IG account, featured Jack posing for the portrait in a grey suit.

“My grandfather Jack Spencer looking happy with life as a pupil at @harrowschoolofficial, which he attended between 1905-1910,” he captioned the post. “(I love the half-smile on his lips, here.) He would go on to @trincollcam (Trinity College, Cambridge)—and then joined the Life Guards, to fight in World War 1. After a life of public service and caring for @althorphouse he died in 1975, soon after his 83rd birthday. #spencerfamily #althorp #worldwar1.”

And while it may just be a painting, we still can’t believe the uncanny resemblance between Jack and Princess Di. And the resemblance did not go unnoticed by followers either, like one user who said, “I see resemblance to Diana [prayer hands emoji].” Another commented, “Your grandfather smiling is similar with Princess Diana. Half-smile=charming!”

This is the second time Charles has shared a throwback of his family this week. Over the weekend, he posted a rare photo of his other grandfather, Albert, alongside Queen Elizabeth II's grandmother, Queen Mary.

Keep ’em coming, Charles.
