Sure, Princess Charlotte Twinned with Her Mom Today, But it Was Her Jewelry That Turned Heads

Today is the Trooping the Colour, the annual military parade marking the official birthday of the British sovereign. Many members of the royal family turned out in their Saturday best for the occasion (including Duchess Sophie in a forest green stunner), but it was Princess Charlotte who caught my eye.

In the 10-year-old royal's second public appearance for the year, she rode in a carriage alongside her mother, the Princess of Wales. Both wore beautiful baby blue ensembles; Princess Catherine paired her tailored dress with a matching floral embellished hat and the Irish Guards regimental brooch. While Princess Charlotte did not don a hat or earrings, she, too, matched with her mother—and the piece is sentimental.

Affixed to her dress was the diamond horseshoe brooch gifted to her by her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who inherited it from her own mother. Princess Charlotte first wore it for a somber occasion—the queen's funeral.

Princess Charlotte joined her family, grandparents and extended family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. (And of course her younger brother, Prince Louis, had some fantastic facial expressions.) Her only other public appearance this year (so far) has been another family function, when the Waleses attended a military parade in honor of the 80th anniversary of VE Day in May. For that event, the young royal kept it simple in a green and plaid coat over a matching dress, with two French braids—sans jewelry.

It's touching that she has such a sentimental piece of jewelry in her budding collection.
