Princess Anne is proving her worth as the hardest working British royal

This week, the Princess Royal, 74, filled in for her brother, King Charles, for an important event. Princess Anne hosted an investiture ceremony on behalf of the monarch at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where she handed out honors to worthy recipients (including paralympic archer Nathan Macqueen and Scottish golfer Sandy Lyle).

The royal family shared a slideshow of photos on Instagram, featuring candid and posed snaps from the investiture ceremony. The caption read, “Well done to all who received honours at the Palace of Holyroodhouse yesterday. Amongst recipients were sporting stars, Nathan Macqueen MBE and Sandy Lyle OBE—congratulations!”

It’s important to note that these ceremonies are typically led by King Charles. However, Princess Anne filled in for the monarch because he had a prior commitment. That same day, King Charles visited the HMS Prince of Wales in the English Channel ahead of its upcoming deployment. (FYI, if the Princess Royal were unable to fill in for King Charles, the duties would fall upon Prince William.)

The location of the ceremony was also noteworthy because investitures usually take place at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle. Although the event has been held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the past, it was the first one of the year.

All hail Princess Anne.
