Why Prince William and Prince Harry Aren’t Likely to Reunite During Harry’s Trip to U.K.

The clues are in the royal diary

We’ve been here before: Prince Harry carrying out royal engagements in the U.K. (such as the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Awards, which he is slated to attend this evening) just a stone’s throw from the palace with zero plans to cross paths with his extended family. This time, the focus is on Prince William specifically. Will the brothers finally have a chance to reunite during the Duke of Sussex’s four-day visit to his home country? According to their royal diaries, despite their proximity, it’s not looking very likely.

After all, Harry arrived in the U.K. on Monday, September 8, a date that also happens to intersect the three year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022. His first stop was Windsor Castle, where he privately visited his grandmother’s burial site and laid a wreath of flowers in her memory. (A quick reminder, Adelaide Cottage—where Prince William and Kate Middleton currently live—is about a 3 minute drive from Windsor.)

Still, that same day, the Prince and Princess of Wales turned up in Berkshire, which is also close to Windsor, but their royal agenda seemed full. (Together, the pair paid a visit to the Women’s Institute, an organization that the late queen was a member of for over eight decades.)

The lack of public overlap for the brothers continues well into the week: On September 9, Harry has confirmed a trip to Nottingham where he will visit the Community Recording Studio followed by a visit to the Imperial College London’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies on September 10. Kensington Palace has also gone on the record to share William’s schedule for the week—namely, the fact that he’ll be busy for the majority of it, popping up at Spiral Skills, a youth organization in Lambeth, on Tuesday, before checking out a new mental health hub run by the Jac Lewis Foundation in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Whether or not a private visit is in the cards is still TBD, but much of their public schedule—at least what’s been revealed so far—presents as a direct clash. (The lack of a meet-up also isn’t too surprising either given the brothers’ ongoing rift.)

As for King Charles and the possibility of a reunion with Harry, that’s still in play. He’s currently in Scotland to honor the anniversary of his mother’s death, but there were reports in early summer of staffers from both Charles’s and Harry’s teams meeting up. Additionally, the Duke of Sussex has been quite vocal about his interest in reconciliation, telling BBC News in May that he “would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

As for whether or not all parties feel the same, that’s up in the air.
