Prince William, 41, marked his return to royal duties by stepping out and making a special appearance at London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner on Wednesday. While at the event, the Prince of Wales took center stage and delivered a speech. And during his public address, the royal touched on Kate Middleton and King Charles’s health.

The father of three began his speech by thanking well-wishers for their encouraging messages during this difficult time for the royal family. FYI, Princess Catherine is currently recovering from undergoing abdominal surgery

Meanwhile, King Charles is receiving medical treatment for his cancer diagnosis, which was revealed earlier this week by Buckingham Palace. (The cancer was discovered after the monarch was admitted into the hospital for his enlarged prostate.)

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days,” William said to the crowd, according to People. “It means a great deal to us all.”

The Prince of Wales tried his best to make light of the situation by telling a joke. He told the audience, “It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather ‘medical’ focus. So I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!”

In case you didn’t know, this latest public appearance marks the prince’s second royal engagement this week. As one of the only working members of the royal family, Prince William marked his return to the public eye by attending an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on the same day as the gala dinner.

In an array of photos shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram page, the royal can be seen rewarding recipients with honors such as CBEs, OBEs and MBEs. “Honouring amazing people doing incredible things in our communities up and down the country,” the caption read.

Sending so much love to the royal fam during this time.
