Omid Scobie Confirms: Prince Harry & King Charles Are Talking on the Phone Again

On the newest episode of Royally Obsessed, podcast co-hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie spoke with Omid Scobie (author of Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival) about the royal family. While discussing The Telegraph’s recent reports claiming that Prince Harry and King Charles had a private phone conversation, Scobie confirmed that the father-son duo have been communicating in private. 

“I was pleased to hear that, at the very least, there have been these short and semi-regular phone conversations with Charles along the way,” he said. “Not just tied into the bigger moments, such as the queen’s death, but also just in private between the two of them where, although the issues weren’t discussed, there was an eagerness on both sides to still keep that line of communication.”

He continued, “In January, we saw and heard Harry in interviews talking about his desire for conversations and accountability and maybe even apologies to see where they had got him beyond the release of the book.”

The royal expert also discussed the impact of maintaining a relationship and how it goes far beyond royal duties. “Ultimately, it's a father and son that still love each other. There's still warmth there,” Scobie said. “But there [have] been huge amounts of upsets, misunderstanding and hurt that has yet to be addressed.”

Although there’s hope for their future father-son relationship, Scobie admitted that it will be a complicated journey. “Can you really then move forward with a healthy relationship or any kind of a relationship beyond that?” he added. “Or is that why we’re stuck in this position of a sort of stalemate situation where neither are really able to move forward because it requires both to put in the effort and not just one?”
