Prince Charles Just Personally Thanked the Guards Who Served at Prince Philip's Funeral

Prince Charles is showing his appreciation for the guards who participated in Prince Philip’s funeral service.

On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales visited the group at their barracks in Windsor. During the engagement, Charles met the guards from divisions like The Prince of Wales’s Company, presented non-operational awards and viewed the Battalion’s new memorial.

According to Clarence House, the Welsh Guards were present at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, lining the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle. To show his thanks, the prince took a moment to give in a heartwarming speech. (Swipe to see the video.)

“I was so enormously proud of those of you who formed part of the complement during my father's funeral recently," he said during the clip. “If I may say so, what a wonderful credit not only to the Welsh Guards but also the Households Division and all those who were on parade, for what you all did.”

In addition to their attendance at his father’s funeral, the Welsh Guards also hold a special place in Charles’s heart. The 72-year-old has been Colonel of the Welsh Guards since 1975—a title which was passed down from his father.

Today’s event marked the first official engagement for Charles since the funeral last month. ICYMI: Thirty special attendees (including members of the royal family) said their final goodbyes to the Duke of Edinburgh during a small ceremonial funeral at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
