Prince Charles & Camilla Parker Bowles Kicked Off Their Royal Tour with a Wine Tasting

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles sure know how to kick off a royal tour the right way.

The 71-year-old Prince of Wales and 72-year-old Duchess of Cornwall arrived in New Zealand today and they’ve already made quite the splash. In addition to laying wreaths at the Mount Roskill War Memorial, visiting the Wesley Community Center and taking a boat tour in Auckland, the royal couple did a little Sauvignon Blanc wine tasting at Hunting Lodge Winery in Auckland.

So why did they fit in some wine tasting to their eight-day tour? As Clarence House explained via Twitter, the Hunting Lodge Winery is home to the “first Sauvignon Blanc Grapes planted in New Zealand.” The royals’ Twitter account went on to say, “Wine is New Zealand’s sixth largest export and is sold in more than 100 countries.” As Sauv Blanc lovers ourselves, we have to say this is one of our favorite royal outings as of late.

While there, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla chatted with sommeliers from the winery and did some wine sniffing.

We wonder what notes their expert noses picked up.

Judging from the look on their faces, they seemed delighted by the whole experience.

Their tour is only getting started, but if this is their first day of activity, then we bet this will be their best New Zealand tour yet (it’s their third joint visit to the country).

Cheers to you two, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla.
