Tennis Superstar Naomi Osaka Just Debuted a New Hair Color for Spring

Naomi Osaka is celebrating her recent win at the 2021 Australian Open with an all-new look for spring.

Yesterday, the professional tennis player, 23, posted a selfie on her personal Instagram account and simultaneously debuted her anime-inspired hair color: pink. (Yes, you read that right.)

In the caption, Osaka revealed that her new look was inspired by pink-haired Sakura Haruno from the Naruto anime series. “Sakura could never lol,” she wrote.

Fans immediately flooded the comments section with words of praise for Osaka’s pink hair. One person wrote, “If you wear this to the next grand slam, it would be epic!” Another added, “You didn’t have to outdo Sakura like that.”

The selfie even garnered attention from a few athletes—like Usain Bolt, who wrote, “U wore it better @naomiosaka lol.” Fellow tennis player Kristie Ahn even referenced Osaka’s boyfriend, YBN Cordae: “Does this make Cordae Sharkboy?”

The post comes just one week after Osaka defeated Jennifer Brady in the Australian Open championship match. During an interview with PureWow, the tennis player opened up about dealing with pre-match jitters.

“Going into Slam finals is definitely the worst. You can’t really sleep at night and you tend to overthink everything until the last minute,” she said. “When that happens, I usually call my family, and they calm me down. Then, I go onto the court and hope for the best.”

Pretty in pink? Check.
