Just when we thought the coronavirus pandemic put an irreversible damper on the holidays, this happened.
Mariah Carey recently teamed up with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson to bring us the best new festive song we didn’t know we needed: “Oh Santa.” The 50-year-old singer released the Christmas track earlier today, along with an accompanying music video to get us in the holiday spirit.
The clip begins on an energetic note, introducing viewers to the three stars, who are surrounded by Santa’s helpers (read: dancers). “Oh Santa” has everything we could possibly want in a holiday song: It has flawless harmonies. It has festive costumes. And it has whistle tones that we can try to replicate even if we end up sounding like a hangry walrus. (If you know, you know.)
If we had to make a comparison, we’d dub “Oh Santa” as the holiday version of “Bang Bang” by Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj.
We’re not totally surprised by the collaboration, since Carey previously teased the song back in October. It all started when the musician shared a mysterious photo on Instagram, featuring three chairs with each star’s initials. Fans immediately went into detective mode, filling the comments sections with their evidence-packed predictions.
Not to mention, the new song coincides with the release of Carey’s all-new holiday flick, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which is now streaming on Apple TV+. “Oh Santa” is the lead single for the soundtrack, so if you’re looking to add more festive music to your playlist, be sure to check out the rest of the tracks.
