Lindsay Lohan has been the ultimate fashionista since the late 1990s, so it should come as no surprise that she has been serving up the looks on the promotional tour for the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel that hits theaters on August 8.
One of her latest outfits, however, is stopping both fashion and film enthusiasts in their tracks, as it pays homage to the iconic look she was seen wearing in her 1998 classic The Parent Trap.
On Monday, the 39-year-old actress made an appearance on Good Morning America, where she spoke more about the sequel and chatted about reuniting with co-star Jamie Lee Curtis. It was Lohan’s outfit, however, that immediately took us back to the late 1990s, as she recreated the plaid skirt tweed set that one of her characters, Annie, wears as she arrives at summer camp in a lavish limousine. This go-round, however, Lohan opted for a fancy yellow and black skirt set from Balmain, which she paired with a black handbag and 2-carat Diamond & White Gold Gypset Hoop Earrings from Jessica McCormack.
The Get a Clue star, of course, played Annie and Hallie, twins separated at birth who reconnect at the aforementioned summer camp in The Parent Trap, and while her outfit of choice for GMA wasn’t an exact replica, the reference was quite clear as she sported a yellow headband and matching strappy sandals from Christian Louboutin to complete the tribute. Lohan’s outfit has also drawn comparisons to the Jean Paul Gaultier set worn by Alicia Silverstone in 1995’s Clueless, giving us a full-fledged throwback to ‘90s fashion in all of its glamour.
As for Freakier Friday, the official synopsis states that “Tess and Anna discover that lightning may indeed strike twice as they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge,” and if that brief description is any indication, this sequel is sure to be a wild ride full of laughter….especially since Lohan’s character, Anna, is now a mother herself with a teenage daughter, and a soon-to-be stepdaughter.
