“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others,” King Charles said in the video. “It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness and to take us to distant places.”
The monarch continued, “But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy.”
King Charles went on to describe each song in the playlist, which included a surprising addition: “Crazy In Love” by Beyoncé. Not only did the monarch describe her as “the incomparable Beyoncé,” but he also revealed that he’s a big fan of her music.
“[Beyoncé is] so exceptional that I could not resist including her music,” he said. “She performed this song at the then-Prince’s Trust Fashion Rocks concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2003.”
King Charles added, “I wanted to include an iconic musical moment from the many events which supported my trust’s work over the years. I would like to congratulate her for winning her first album of the year Grammy.”
