Kelly Ripa Almost Pursued an Unexpected Profession

Kelly Ripa is an actress, TV personality and mom of three children, but long before she graced our TV screens, the 49-year-old had an entirely different profession in mind.

During a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ripa revealed that she always saw herself pursuing a career as a midwife if the entertainment industry didn’t work out. The confession came about during a conversation with Jennifer Shoback, who works as a midwife in Pennsylvania.

“You are living my other profession,” Ripa said. “Once upon a time, I was like, ‘I wish I could be a midwife or a doula.’ I wish I had that level of expertise because I just find the whole childbirth experience to be so incredible and miraculous and exhilarating, you do such a phenomenal job there.”

Shoback confirmed that the coronavirus pandemic has drastically affected the industry, saying, “I don’t think it’s what anybody envisioned their birth would look like.”

Ripa responded by offering words of support, adding, “I know from experience that you are a source of comfort to the women in those delivery rooms. We are just so thankful that you are fighting the good fight every day and bringing these beautiful little people into the world.”

Ripa shares three children with her husband, Mark Consuelos: Michael (22), Lola (18) and Joaquin (17).

If you need us, we’ll be trying to picture Ripa as our midwife. (Disclaimer: Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.)
