When it comes to Princess Catherine, royal watchers know there’s really no such thing as too much information. From her enviable outfit choices to her ever-evolving hairstyles to her passion projects that tug at our heartstrings—every little detail is devoured. And her latest moment? It’s a subtle, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reference that fans of her youngest son, Prince Louis, are going to love.

During the French state visit that kicked off on July 8, Princess Catherine joined French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at Windsor Castle for a tour of royal artifacts related to France. While exploring the exhibit in the Green Drawing Room, the Princess of Wales paused in front of a portrait of young King Louis XIV and couldn’t resist a lighthearted quip.

“I should know,” she said, referencing the painting, according to Hello! magazine.

The offhand comment was subtle, but many royal watchers took it as a sweet nod to her youngest son, Prince Louis.

Fun fact: Princess Catherine studied art history at the University of St Andrews—yes, the very same place she met Prince William—so she’s not just making conversation. The woman knows her stuff.

Of course, it wasn’t just the comment that got people talking. The Princess of Wales showed up in serious style, wearing her first-ever Dior look: a perfectly tailored blush-pink ensemble designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The outfit included the iconic Dior Bar jacket and a dreamy tulle skirt. She paired the look with a matching hat by British milliner Jess Collett, and paid homage to the royal women before her with Queen Elizabeth II’s pearl choker and earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana.

Prince Louis may not have been there in person, but his mom made sure he was there in spirit—with a royal wink.
