It was a solemn occasion for the royal family on Tuesday, as they laid Katharine, Duchess of Kent, to rest.

During her services, which took place at Westminster Cathedral, the family could be seen greeting and comforting one another. Photographers captured a sweet moment between the Princess of Wales and King Charles as they said their goodbyes, with Kate kissing Charles on each cheek and curtsying.

In a statement released after the Duchess of Kent's passing, the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote, “Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen, and Nicholas,” referring to their three children. “The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family.”

Buckingham Palace also released a statement, saying she "passed away peacefully at Kensington Palace surrounded by her family,” adding, “The King and Queen and all members of the Royal Family join the Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly the duchess's life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

It’s a busy week for the Princess of Wales and Prince William, as they are currently hosting President Trump and First Lady Melania for their U.K. visit. On September 17, the pair welcomed the President and Melania at Windsor Castle for a royal greeting, and the group took a tour of the royal estate. Later on this week, Kate and Melania are scheduled to meet with UK Scoutmaster Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program at Frogmore Gardens in Windsor.
