Happy wife, happy life

They say “happy wife, happy life,” and Chip Gaines clearly got the memo. The Fixer Upper star, known for his signature shaggy hair, finally gave his wife Joanna the birthday gift she’s been asking for—a haircut.

Chip documented the whole thing on Instagram with a little help from their youngest son, Crew. The video starts with Chip cruising around on his lawnmower, his long hair falling into his face. “All Joanna wanted for her birthday was for me to get a haircut, but I feel like my hair is just finally starting to look awesome,” he says.

Next, we see Crew filming his dad at the salon, capturing the moment as several inches of hair hit the floor. The final result? A much shorter, cleaner cut that has Chip feeling lighter—literally and figuratively.

“I actually feel pretty good. I feel pretty light. Happy birthday, Jo!” Chip says, once again back on his trusty lawnmower.

The video was part of a joint Instagram post with Joanna, who captioned it, “You look good @chipgaines... Crew did awesome capturing the moment.” She also gave a shoutout to the hair salon that made it happen.

Fans were also very into the new look. “So much better,” one wrote. Another added, “Makes you look 10 years younger.” One commenter summed it up with, “Shorter hair on Chip is SO MUCH BETTER.”

Of course, Chip didn’t stop the birthday celebrations there. He also posted a sweet birthday tribute to Joanna, featuring a photo of the couple in a forest. Chip wore jeans, a white T-shirt layered with a button-down and boots. Joanna kept it casual in jeans, a black tank, white Converse and a yellow cap.

“My. Best. Friend. Happy birthday, Joey.. I love you,” Chip captioned the post.

Looks like Chip’s birthday gift was a hit—and I'm pretty sure Joanna agrees.
