Meet All 5 of Joanna Gaines’s Children

Talented interior decorator and entrepreneur Joanna Gaines is basically America’s sweetheart, and her family is just as likable. It’s also quite large—the HGTV star of Fixer Upper fame shares five children with husband Chip Gaines—and if you’ve been swooning over Joanna's Insta feed (guilty as charged), then you probably know the doting mother talks about her kids quite often. Read on to meet all five of Joanna Gaines’s children: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie and Crew.

Born on February 5, 2005, Drake Gaines is the oldest of Chip and Joanna’s children. He’s currently flown the nest to attend school at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he’s currently studying business entrepreneurship. He’s also quite an accomplished baseball player, having played for four years on the varsity team at Valor Prep Academy in the Gaines family’s hometown of Waco, Texas. Although Drake has chosen to live on campus for his sophomore year, it’s safe to say that his dorm room is a cut above the rest—namely because his mother had a hand in helping him decorate it. Joanna recently opened up about how emotional it was to send her oldest off to college, but the transition has been relatively smooth since he’s still just a stone’s throw away from home and regularly returns for family dinners (and to do his laundry).

Joanna’s second child and first daughter, Ella, became an adult when she turned 18 on October 20. Ella celebrated this major milestone by casting her first ever vote in the 2024 presidential election and made her social media debut. Indeed, Ella now has her own private Instagram account—a privilege that Joanna and Chip have held off on granting all their children until the summer before they go to college. In other words, if you want to know more about Ella, you now know where to find her. It’s also worth noting that Ella has a variety of entrepreneurial ambitions, particularly in the culinary world. She currently runs a bakery out of the family’s kitchen and has aspirations of becoming a cook and food truck operator.

The Gaines’ welcomed their third child on May 23, 2008. Rumor has it that the now sixteen-year-old is the comedian of the family. He was seen joshing with his dad on TV during a certain shopping spree from episode five of Fixer Upper, in which he revealed himself as a practical shopper while saying “shopping with my dad is kind of impossible.” Sources also say that, much like his older brother, Duke enjoys watching and playing baseball.

Emmie (born January 5, 2010) has inherited the entrepreneurial spirit and shares her older sister’s interest in running a food business. In fact, she’s already gotten started; she and her brother, Duke, go door-to-door selling eggs and produce from their family farm. Emmie is also a dedicated farmhand who has been put in charge of caring for the family’s chickens. Joanna also raves about her daughter’s baking talents, writing on Instagram that Emmie’s original cookie recipe yielded “one of the best cookies she’s ever tasted.”

Crew, the youngest member of the Gaines brood, was born June 21, 2018. His primary interest at the moment is, well, being an adorable six-year-old kid. Joanna also said in an interview with People Magazine that his youthful joy has made her feel “younger than ever” and given her a new appreciation for the simplest things.
