Watch ‘Cheer’ Star Jerry Harris Candidly React to His Oscars Invite

If you’ve already binge-watched your way through Netflix’s Cheer, you’re probably very familiar with Jerry Harris. Thanks to the show, the Navarro cheerleader has become famous for his “mat talk”—so much so that Ellen DeGeneres invited him to be a correspondent on the Oscars red carpet.

This weekend, the official @ellentube Instagram account shared a video of Harris finding out that he’s attending the 92nd annual Academy Awards, and his candid reaction deserves an honorary Oscar.

The caption read, “We told @jerry.h.arris from #CheerNetflix that he was going to be our red carpet correspondent at the #Oscars. His reaction was priceless.”

In the clip, Monica Aldama—the Navarro cheer coach—positions Harris in front of the camera before revealing that DeGeneres selected him to attend the Oscars as her red-carpet correspondent. To no surprise, the cheerleader candidly reacts to the news, screaming “Oh my gosh!” in his signature high-pitch tone.

“[You’re talking to] all the stars,” Aldama explains. “You’re gonna interview them. They’re gonna style you and everything!”

Harris originally gained popularity thanks to Netflix’s Cheer, which is a docuseries about the Navarro cheerleading team. The athlete is famous for his “mat talk,” which involves shouting compliments at his teammates in an attempt to boost their confidence while they perform.

If you need us, we’ll be keeping an eye out for Harris on the Oscars red carpet.
