The royal family is always on the move.

And their latest adventure involved a surprising member of the family (not the usual Charles, Camilla, William or Kate) exploring the Darwin200, a global conservation initiative that retraces Charles Darwin's infamous voyage on the HMS Beagle. The Duke of Edinburgh (aka King Charles's brother) got a chance to tour the ship last week, and the royal palace shared a clip from the visit on their official Instagram, captioning their post, “Celebrating the incredible voyage of @Darwin200! Last week, the Duke of Edinburgh toured the 107-year-old ship Oosterschelde. This ship has just completed a two-year journey, retracing Charles Darwin’s route that was made two centuries ago on HMS Beagle.”

The post continued, “The Duke met young conservationists and the crew to hear more about their voyage and experiences. 105 young conservationists were selected from 45 countries all over the world, and they had the opportunity to join part of the voyage. They were selected due to their lifetime passion for nature conservation and their efforts to protect and restore the planet.” Darwin200 operates with the mission of training 200 young conservationists, one from each of 200 countries and states, to become future leaders in environmental conservation.

The Duke’s trip, along with its respective charitable initiatives, didn’t go unnoticed, with one person commenting, “Wow, that’s so inspiring! Seeing young people from everywhere chase their dreams like that.” Another commenter added, “The Duke is amazing in his work! And this engagement last week was incredible.” It’s been a summer filled with meaningful work for the Duke of Edinburgh. Earlier this month, the royal visited Canada to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the PEI Regiment, where he served as the official Colonel-in-Chief and met with members of Canada’s military and police.

The Duke also joined a Freedom of the City parade in Charlottetown, met with the Abegweit First Nation and took part in an education forum for his International Award, which he established as an organization to challenge young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world.

That same Canadian trip saw him traveling to Toronto, where he celebrated Canada’s military and police services with visits to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, HMCS York, CFB Trenton, and the Toronto Police Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force.

The Duke has certainly been busy, even if he isn't one of the usual cast of royal characters we get to see.
