Sunday night was a major moment for music, thanks to the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, the show aired live on CBS for the very first time and was hosted by none other than LL Cool J. The night was packed with energy, A-list talent and some high-octane performances—but let’s talk about what went down before the show even started.

As usual, your favorite artists hit the red carpet in jaw-dropping looks but Doja Cat? She took things to a whole other level. The “Paint the Town Red” singer arrived in a whimsical Balmain ensemble that looked straight out of a high-fashion Alice in Wonderland reboot. The dress featured a plunging neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves and a fairytale vibe that was both dreamy and daring.

But it wasn’t the outfit that got people talking. It was what she did on the carpet.

While posing for photos, Doja casually pulled out a crimson-red lipstick, reapplied it and then… took a bite out of it. Yes, she ate her lipstick, chewing it with a smile as cameras snapped away.

In a post-red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Doja described the lipstick as “delicious.” Though it was later confirmed that it was indeed a MAC-inspired chocolate (she is MAC Cosmetics’ newest global ambassador), she didn’t confirm whether it was edible at the time which sent the internet into a spiral.

“I love how unserious she is,” one fan commented. “It was probably candy or icing I hope. Lol,” another wrote, while a third added, “Finally bringing some character back to the VMAs.”

Later in the night, Doja did an outfit change and delivered the first performance of the show, singing her track “Jealous Type.” No lipstick-munching this time.

She also took home a Moon Person, winning Best K-Pop Video for her collaboration on Lisa from BLACKPINK’s “Born Again,” which also featured rising star RAYE.
