Here's Why D.J.'s Wife on ‘Roseanne’ Seems So Familiar

On Tuesday night’s episode of Roseanne, we finally met D.J.’s (Michael Fishman) wife, Geena, but you might be surprised to learn she’s not a new character.

That’s right, Geena is the same classmate D.J. kissed in season seven of the hit ABC series, which originally aired in—wait for it—1994. In the episode, titled “White Men Can’t Kiss,” young D.J. becomes distraught when he realizes he’s supposed to kiss a girl, Geena (previously played by Rae’Ven Larrymore), in a school play.

This week’s episode not only gave us a first look at grown-up Geena but also confirmed that the childhood kiss resulted in a marriage and a child, Mary (Jayden Rey). The Mindy Project’s Xosha Roquemore portrays Geena in the revival.

In the new episode, titled “Go Cubs,” Mary wants to FaceTime her mom, who is stationed in Afghanistan, but there’s a caveat. The Conner family can’t pay for their Wi-Fi bill, which leads Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) to befriend her Muslim next-door neighbors so Geena can have her much-deserved screen time.

Welcome back, Geena. Roseanne airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
