Pixar Just Released the Trailer for New Movie ‘Luca’ (& It's Full of Sea Monsters & Italian Countrysides)

Maybe it's just us, but this new Pixar film is really taking us back to our obsession with H20: Just Add Water.

Disney and Pixar teased their upcoming film, Luca, with its first official trailer and poster. Pixar writes that, "Luca is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface."

Based on the trailer, it looks like Luca will fit in nicely with Pixar's collection of mystical and unconventional films. The voice of Luca will be provided by Jacob Tremblay, who played Brie Larson's son in the Oscar-nominated Room (2015). Alongside Tremblay, the film will feature voice work from Jack Dylan Grazer, Maya Rudolph, and Jim Gaffigan, among others.

The poster for the movie (which is giving us Mamma Mia meets The Little Mermaid vibes) was unveiled on the @pixarluca Instagram account, with a caption that said: "Disney and Pixar’s newest adventure makes a splash this summer."

This will be Pixar's only film of 2021, following the release of Onward and Soul in 2020. The film was directed by Enrico Casarosa (of the Oscar-nominated short film La Luna) and produced by Andrea Warren (WALL-E) and Pete Doctor (Up, Inside Out).

Get ready for Luca to splash into theaters on June 18th, 2021.
